A Study in Mold Dates
The PL pages have places for three dates. The Order Date is obviously when the mold was ordered. It is my assumption that this order date is the date the Marx company sent the model masters to the mold making company (usually Ferriot), or if the company had made the masters, then the date that Marx approved the model and requested molds. The Delivery Date is the date that Marx wanted the finished mold to be delivered to the factory ( probably in negociation with the mold making company). The Received Date is the date the mold was actually delivered. For most of the PL pages, this date is left blank - I'll assume that this means the mold was actually delivered on, or before, the requested date. The average time it took for this Order through Delivery cycle is about 10-12 weeks.
This list is generated in a little Java applet on the page. You can sort the data by any column by double-clicking on that column header / title - Double-Clicking again on the same header will reverse the sort order. You can expand the column by dragging it's border left or right. Notes: Often the delivery date was indicated by a week range such as "10-12 Weeks" in those cases I'm converting that to an actual date beyond the order date. The date format has been changed to YYYY/MM/DD numbers to allow the sorting feature to work. The actual dates in the PL book were usually in the format of mm/dd/yy and can be seen in their actual format on the PL Page Viewer.
