Red Knight Legion - The Home Guard - 1st Brigade

First Brigade

Introducing my Marx figures.... My main source for these guys and gals is eBay. Every now and then I will catch one of these 'out in the open' at flea markets or moving sales.

Here's a squad of Stoney troops. Made by Marx Toys in the mid-sixties, these guys came with a ton of accessories. Here you see (L to R): Stony the Paratrooper with box, then in front of the Buddy Charlie box another Stony with non-bendable legs, then two more Stonys with bendable knees and hips. One is wearing a rare version of the Desert Patrol hat. This hat was made when Marx was planning on doing a Jeep and Figure set in 12" scale called the Desert Patrol. This was scraped and the company produced the figure/jeep set in 8" scale in tan plastic versus green. Between these two Stonys you see a fatigue shirt for Stony Smith. Eventhough it was made for these guys it really made no sense, the figures have molded clothes so don't need uniforms. The Buddy Charlie however, did come nude and so needed uniforms. The Footlocker for these troops is made out of cardboard - harder to find than a good Joe footlocker with insert!

Here's another set of Marx figures. L to R: Daniel Boone Wilderness Scout. The figure in front of the box is an extra while the Mint guy is still in his box. Next comes Princess Wildflower. I don't collect the females from the Best of the West Marx series but this one was in excellenct shape with all accessories. Next you see my first Johnny West (I've got several more now), next you see two Sheriff Garrets. The one in the back is made of dark blue plastic and the one in the front is made from a lighter blue. The box contains another mint Sheriff with accessories still on the spurs! Some marx 12" accessories spread around like Flour box, Rifle Box and other boxes made to fit in one of the Marx Best of the West buildings.

Can you hear the sound of clanging swords and viking horns? This set of Marx figures are some of my favorites. I remember in 1968-69 my dad telling me I could have $20 for Christmas presents (Big Time). So I got both the knights and their horses! What a great year! Here you see (L to R): Sir Valiant The Gold Knight with box, next comes Odin the Viking Chieftain, then Eric the Viking and another Odin. The box behind them is for Odin, Then you have Sir Stuart The Silver Knight with his box. Marx is supposed to reissue these figures as KB exclusives in Feb 99. I can't wait! I also have their horses with some armor, but they were out to pasture during this photo op.

Here's a set of modern Joes with a 1964 Marx figure thrown in: (L to R): First we have the FAO Schwarz Golden Knight. This guy was signed by Don Levine and the rest of the GI Joe Creative team at the Philly 97 convention. Then you have the Marx "Mike Hazard Double Agent" figure. This guy came will a ton of accessories including cigs and a lighter. Then you see a Teresa (barbie) dressed in a Circle-Home leotard with a Cots german helmet. Just something to give the boys a diversion. Next a set of the Target Masterpiece Edition Joes: Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Pilot. Followed by an FAO Schwarz ME Astronaut.

Now on the Frontier where you had the Cavalry vs the Indians. First comes Zeb Zachary. A little harder to find then his compariots. Behind him you see a Fort Apache Fighters Geronimo mint in box. The other Geronimo standing in front is extra. Then two Capt Maddox Fort Apache Fighters, one mint in box with accessories still sealed in their plastic bags. Next comes a Fighting Eagle from the Johnny West Adventures series. This guy was also mint in box but I had to take him out for play and display! In front of Eagle there is one of the three General Custard figures I have.

This set of Marx Best of the West figures are in great shape. The Jane West comes with a few accessories and was part of a bulk buy. Next you see two Sam Cobra Renegade Bad Man figures with another Johnny West between them. Next you see Sheriff Thomas Goode, a Canadian only figure that has the blond head of JW and the white body of Sam Cobra. The silver and black accessories spread out on the floor are Sam's and Goode's.
